Trend Alert | Dolphin Skin is In

Coined by celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips Dolphin Skin is the evolution of the Glass Skin trend. While Glass Skin was all about glassy, transparent skin achieved by skincare, Dolphin Skin takes the glow factor to the next level by incorporating both skincare and makeup into the mix to achieve hydrated, clear and illuminated skin.

Dolphin Skin is all about strategically placed highlighter! Basically you want to layer as many illuminating and highlighting beauty products into your makeup routine as possible to achieve the perfect just-stepped-out-of-the-ocean wet look.

And that starts with skincare!  Before you do anything, you want to make sure your skin has been exfoliated well. From there, it’s all about achieving the most glowy and youthful looking finish, and that requires starting  with a hydrated and fresh base.

For primer we recommend choosing one that will both hydrate and boost your skins luminosity, much like Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Hydrating Primer. Alternatively, you can go with a luminous primer like the Laura Mercer Pure Canvas Illuminating Primer and layer it over a hydrating moisturiser.

Tip: if you’re prone to oily skin opt for a matte primer and then incorporate your highlight element later in your makeup routine.

Before you lay down your foundation, apply some cream highlighter to the high points of your face (brow bone, temples, tops of your cheeks, the tip and bridge of your nose) for an under layer of highlight that will peep through your foundation. We recommend the M.A.C Strobe Cream Hyratant Lumineux

When it comes to foundation, the aim is for your skin to look like skin with a dewy finish.  So, put aside the matte foundation and look for coverage that will give you a beautiful looking glow.  In fact, you can even forgo foundation altogether and instead opt for a tinted moisturiser for that skin-that-actually-looks-like-skin effect you’re aiming for with this look, like the Bobbi Brown Nude Finish Tinted Moisturiser.

Alternatively, you can get a little experimental and take your favourite foundation and mix a little liquid highlighter, like the ICONIC London Illuminator Glow, into it to create a glow perfectly tailored to you.

Now that you’ve locked in your base, it’s time to bring some colour back into your face with a sweep of blush.  Most would suggest using a cream blush, but any product with sheer coverage and a shimmer to it, work great too! The buttery formula and shimmering pigmentation of the blush shades (Sigma and Delta) from our Glow Palettes are ideal for this look.

Now for the highlight! Reach for our Glow Palette again and dip into our Luna highlight, sweeping the product over all the high points of your face. For an extra dewy finish take a pat a clear, non-sticky gloss over the top of the highlight, to achieve that true dolphin skin vibe.

Add that final finesse with fluffy brows and layer of gloss on your lips to really emphasis the look. For brows you can't go past our Brow Definers for a perfectly natural textured brow and for lips we suggest our Santorini Liquid Lip Gloss for a peachy lip or our Tahiti Liquid Lip Gloss for more of a sheer, but still poppin' finish.
