Top Makeup Tricks and Tips

Like most things in life, practice makes perfect! And, makeup is no exception. Let’s face it, we weren’t all born trained Makeup Artists (as much as we might wish it sometimes).  That’s why we love discovering new methods to help us fake it until we make it. We gathered some of our favourite makeup tricks to share with you and help you on your way to becoming a pro.

For the Lips

Make your Lippy stay all day by apply a matching lip liner underneath. This will not only make the colour stay all day but also stop the colour from cracking (this is especially true for liquid Lipsticks). Check out our range of Gel Lip Pencils to find the perfect match for your lippy.

These days we’re all about contour, I mean how did we ever live without it before? But, did you know that you can contour yourself the perfect pout with your Lip Liner too? Take a Lip Liner a shade, or two, darker than your lipstick and outline your lips. And then fill your lips with the lighter shade of lippy and make sure to blend the two together evenly (you can use a lip brush or blend in with your fingers).

For the Cheeks

Cream blushes are making a huge comeback in the beauty industry. But did you know that you don’t have to go further than your fav shade of lippy for the perfect cream blush effect. Apply a small about of cream lipstick to the apples of your cheeks and blend in with your fingers or a blending brush, and ta-da you have the perfect dewy flush. Note: Make sure to stick to the nude, pink and peach shades, we don’t want to trespass into clown territory.

For Your Eyeshadow

The next time you want to rock a full face with a bare eye look, blend a touch of bronzer (matte) into your crease and then pop some along your lower lash line. This will make your eyes look bigger. Try using our Powder Blush in the shade Bronze (it’s a blush and Bronzer all in one)

Have you experienced a blending blunder? Can’t get your eyeshadow to blend evenly? You’re not alone. To blend your eyeshadow evenly use a base shadow that matches your skin tone, from there you can build your look. Trust me, it makes life easier. The shade ‘Nudie’ from our Sinopia Eyeshadow Palette is perfect for this!

Once you get going with Eyeshadow, sometimes it can be a little hard to know when or even where to stop. It only takes one rouge swipe of your brush and disaster! To help keep your eyeshadow from going out of bounds, imagine a line that starts at the outer corner of you eye and ends at the tail of brow. Use this line as a guide to keep your shadow on point.

Bonus Tip: To give yourself more control blending brush try holding the brush closer to the end of the handle.

For Your Eyeliner

There is nothing wrong with using a little help when it comes to eyeliner. Trust me, we all need it sometimes. There is a little trick that makeup artists have been using for years to help them get the straightest, sharpest wing. If you’re a total eyeliner novice try placing a bit of tape where you’re going to draw in the wing, and then use it to guide your eyeliner. This won’t only give you the sharpest line every time, but also help you gain a steady hand and the confidence to eventually go without the tape. Mellow's Precision Pen Eyeliner is the perfect eyeliner for novices and pros alike.

One of the biggest struggles when it comes to nailing the perfect winged liner is getting the wing placement correct. To do so try starting your wing for from your bottom lash line, instead of the top lash line. This should help guide your line placement and help you create the perfect wing to suit your eye shape. To create perfectly defined wings, try our Black Gel Eyeliner, it will give you the sharpest lines every time.

Now all that’s left to do is give these makeup tricks ago!
